Everything appears to be OK all lights are on and it is making the correct noises when water is at temperature but when I click the button on the handle to release the steam nothing is happening. I was wondering if the plastic tube which you put in the water tank needs replaced after a certain time and if so where could I purchase such a thing. Thank you.

I have a steam generator iron and the steam was only coming out the base, it needed to be descaled, once I done this, the iron worked the same as the 1st day I bought it.

after taking unit apart three hours to sort this problem out. not the broken spring in pump as previously discussed . but what it actualy was hose from pump to the heating element/ was full of dirt so much for the (filters) when heating element is corroding on the inside . and blocking inlet hose . remove hose clear debri and hope to ghet a bit longer out of it. the best way to see this hose is turn unit upside down . you shuold be able to see hose through the vents.

It needs descaling. To get it to work fill the water container and plug it in. Put the base on the kitchen work surface and hold the iron near the floor. Press and hold the button. Do this several times. Then reverse the process; put the base on the floor and hold the iron above the work surface, again pressing the button. I had to repeat the process several times but it did work. Once steam was flowing again I descaled it as per instructions in the booklet. It's been fine since.

russell hobbs are cr*p - nvr getting a product from them again! been searching for over 6months for steam glide filters for the 19278 iron. and hobbs ppl said they wont have anything tilloctober its rediculous!!

I've had exactly the same problem. The tear drop symbol flashes red, the iron heats up but when I press the steam release button, there's no noise of the air pockets being eliminated nor any steam coming out. I too bought mine 18 months ago and therefore it's out of warranty. I thought it may be a problem with limescale but of course, you can't place descaler in the chamber as you can't switch it on. If you hear of anything, please post it!

Filters are available from the customer services centre - Salton - by post. If that is the problem. I am having a similar problem - everything seems to be working ok - except no steam from the iron - it appears to be escaping from the tube which comes out of the base into the iron? It's under two years old, but out of guarantee. Customer services suggested sending it up to them in Manchester to have a look, the woman I spoke to said she had not heard of this problem before, but postage alone is going to cost ££. I have just purchased extra filters!
