Can I open up my Hoover Steam Vac to clean out the system?

There's no suction in my Hoover Widepath 12 volt Steam Vac and I think I've jammed up the system but there is still suction on the hand held attachment. Can I open it up and clean it out? I'm told that it would cost $89 plus tax to have this service done but I just don't have that kind of money . . . and I can't do without a steam cleaner with all the pets I have.

Yes, I did the worst . . . I didn't vacuum first and it's all my fault . . . I admit it but now I need it fixed.

I think you meant to say 12 Amp. Steam Vac...you do plug it into the wall don't you?
Kidding aside, what usually causes these machines to loose suction is either a missing part or a container not seated correctly. Considering what model you have, I would say you don't have your recovery tank lid on correctly, OR..the screen in the container itself is REALLY blocked with lint/ dirt. Might as well take your lower tank to the sink and give it a good look over and cleaning. Also, another way to loose suction is by letting the lower tank get too full, causing the float to come up and block the air passage.
