Replacing deflector shield on mower?

I've got a Craftsman DGT-6000 riding mower (model #917.275285). The reflector shield is falling apart and I am getting blinded by the debris from the yard shooting in my face. I've got a replacement part, but can't figure out how to remove the pin and spring assembly that holds it onto the mower. There are caps on each end of the pin that are smooth all around (no place for a wrench) and there are no slots for screwdrivers of any sort. How do I get this infernal thing apart? Any ideas?

Thank you!

Ta-Da!

Figured it out... on the rear of the pin, there was a compression washer which I pounded off with a screwdriver and hammer. Sproing! It came off. Installing the new shield was easy. Yay! Five acres down, one more to mow (til next weeek at least).
