Electric cooker fault?

My daughter has an electric oven. The oven works fine but when she trys to use one of the hobs this knocks the electrics out. Does this sound like a fault with the oven or the electrics? Any advice would be most welcome. Cheers.

could also be a faulty selector switch or regulator

Its a faulty hotplate causing this, Bob - the element has burnt out on it and its shorting to earth. Only one hotplate should be affected, the rest should be ok.
