ROVER 416 R REG ?

JUST REPLACED HEAD GASKET. WHEN HEATER IS TURNED TO COLD THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE RISES NEAR TO RED. WHEN HEATER IS TURNED TO RED THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE IS NORMAL HALF WAY. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
