1998 LDV Pilot Van with 1.9 Diesel engine?

intermitant fault turn key to start nothing happens, battery fully charged, all lights and wipers work OK, power to ignition switch OK, turn key to start position power OK,then engine started and then for about a month it was fine after doing some shopping it was the same as before, I was about to phone a friend to give me a tow home I tried one final turn of the key and it started. It was fine for about a 1000 miles then the same thing happend, this time there was no ignition warning light or glow plug warning light, wipers lights battery OK, this time I had to get a tow and tried tow starting at about 30mph but it still wouldnt start, any help appriciated thanks.

the fault was a bad engine earth cable that had corroded between the cable and one of the terminals I removed the terminal and cleaned cable and terminal then solderd them together then refitted the cable, van started straight away
