my washing machine fills, spins twice and then stops completely

Sounds like it could be the capacitor (inside the back panel, bolted to the chasis next to the motor on the left hand side.)
This has happened to my Candy twice now. Its very easy to replace - you'll need a 400v 10microfarrad capacitor.
