How can i fix my electric flymo?

I accidiently went over a small steel tube hiden amonst the grass, the blade caught the object and fired it accross the garden. Since then when pressing the power the motor runs but the blades do not rotate. There is some small smoke petruding from the motor also. Its an electric Fly mo with the self containing/removable container sat between the motor and the handles....if that helps?? Would very much appreciate any assistance in this matter. Regards.

I had a similar experience...mine fired a stone through the first pane of a double glazed window! My motor is smoking 'white' electric smoke so i suspect the motor (or carbon brushes) has gone! If it's black/dark 'rubber burning' smoke you experienced at first then you may be lucky...belt slipping as it's been burned smooth onto spindle (a bit like a Dyson belt!). New belts vary according to model (the 330 seems to go through these...and motors!). If it's the motor, get a new lawnmower!

Your motor very probably drives the cutting blade through a belt and the belt may have snapped when you had your accident. The smoke you see might well be the remains of the belt burning up with friction from the drive gear on the motor shaft.

You may wish to get it repaired or failing that to summon up your courage and take it apart to see what's happened inside.

All this is conjecture - if it were my machine I would reach for my screwdriver so I might discover the true cause of the failure.

Good luck...
