is there a re-set for service engine soon light?

I recently bought a 98 ford escort and it had a locking gas cap on it. The used car lot managed to remove the locking cap and replaced it with another cap. Shortly, the check engine soon lt came on. i bought the correct gas cap but the light is still on.
