iratic idel speed?

my wifes passat ticks over at 500 rpm but if you increase the revs even by 200 to 300 rpm it cuts out on the return to 500rpm.
how can i increase the tickover rpm to stop this

Hi Chris, without knowing the year and engine size/type it is difficult to answer, if it's an early fuel injection the minimum idle can only be adjusted with the correct diagnostic kit to re-program the ecu
