gearbox noise?

oil in gearbox below level had service in feb no noise in 2nd and 3rd gear

I think it still points to the same thing...when the gearbox bearings wear, the gap called the 'meshing clearance' between the gear cogs opens up a bit and the result is a whine. I've heard that Scooby boxes tend to do this, but its not a car I'm very familiar with at all. One thing though - it shouldn't get worse quickly but obviously keep an eye (sorry ear) on it.

no noise went coasting in or out of gear only when accelerate even only when you accelerate slightly

If the oil is a tiny bit on the low side it wouldn't make any difference but the level should have been checked at the last service.....I think you need to seek out a Subaru specialist and see what they say as they are sure to have seen this all before. They can then advise you what to do next. I still think its a bearing problem, and I wonder if the noise is still there if you coast along, out of gear?
