how can i fix my rover ?

hi my rover 45 is sluggery when i put it in gear to move it is struggling to move so i rev it for a while then it goes 4 abit but then goes really slow again when i have the problem it has a banging sound coming from under car please help

This could be a number of things based on the limited information given. One thought is that it might be the cat in the exhaust box breaking up and blocking exhaust fumes going out of the exhaust system tailpipe.
Way to check might be to see what pressure these is at the back exhaust box OR take car to an exhaust specialist.
