Hoover 1400 AAA VHD8142?

Hi there, I have a Hoover 1400 AAA VHD8142 washing machine. I tried to put on a wash today, only to find that it is lightinging up like a Christmas tree whenever I turn the selector dial to any of the programs. That's EVERY light on the fascia on! I switched it off at the socket for a few mins, then switched it on and selected SPIN with no success other than that a few of the lights switched off. Machines not filling/spinning/draining. Any of you folks recognise these symptoms? Thanks for your help, Gary.

Unplug the washer!!
Remove the top lid by undoing the three top screws under the lid.
push the top back about an inch and lift off, the plastic side trim will come away.
The ribbon connector lead running from the control light panel, about six inches long is the most likely culprit and the cheapest to replace. Its not robust enough to take the vibrations.
Clean and spray the contacts and the rotary selector knob with a good contact cleaner while you are in there and tighten up any loose nuts, screws etc.
Check that any wiring is not chaffing and tywrap it neatly.
