how do i get my microsoft VX-700 webcam to work?

Ive just got a Microsoft VX-700 webcam and hooked it up,but my Yahoo IM says nothing is hooked up.How do I get it to work.The mic is not working as well.I can hear my friends but they can't hear me.Im new to this computer stuff,please help.
