Our Optima alarm system goes off whether or not it is set?

The alarm panel goes off sometimes a number of times a day, then doesn't go off for days. The 'A' led appears and the tamper and attack lights are lit. I suspect its something to do with the panic button but this is just a guess. I don't think we have a key for it (its never been used). Can you please offer any suggestions?
Thank you your help would be appreciated.

Dear death,
I tried that (eventually) that didn't solve the problem, so I disabled the panic button and guess what, no more disturbed nights

Many thanks
Carol

if the panic button is pushed down if you unscrew the panic button you can push it back up if you do that check the panel is screwed on check pir's are working and open them n check them set the alarm and make it go off by walking past a pir and check the bell box the outside box is working if not check the fuses in the panel if no diffrence maybe new alarm if its an old optima xm6 or xl6 i recently changed mine due to the same problem you are having i recomend texecom veritas compact for you system and texecom odyseey but you never know it might work again
