suffolk punch 43s electric start mower?

Hi,

I have a suffolk punch 43s electric start mower, it's about 1995 I think. There is no spark, put in new plug, cleaned up flywheel magnets etc, still nothing, no electric shock when touching lead and tryng to start. I think it must be the electric stator as I think it's called. They are about £50 so I want to be sure that's the proble, before buying. Any thoughts on the problem anyone ??? Much appreciated

Assumng you mean the electronic coil pack when you say "stator", they are a known weak point, so that probably is the problem. It depends what engie is fitted - if it's a Tecumseh, the coil is mounted outside the flywheel. If this is the case, I have them in stock new or used (£10 and £25 respectively). If it's the older engine with the coil under the flywheel, good luck. These consign more machines to the tip than anything else.

Before condemning it, check that the stop switch (on the speed control assembly) hasn't grounded out.

My thoughts are it is indeed proberbly the stator as this is a common problem. They do come up quite regular on ebay so it might be worth a try Failing that it might be worth asking the local repair place if they have a secondhand one in because our local fella always keeps them from scrap machines because of there unreliable nature.
Good luck
