handbreak only holds on one side?

Ford Focus my handbreak only holds on the passenger side and not the driver side any idea what it could be im a complete amature so any ideas would be appreacheated

If the hand brake doesn't work at all on one side, the chances are the handbrake cable has snapped or simply rusted up.....I'm doing a few of these now, on 51 plate Focus and earlier models. The brake pipes are in remarkably poor condition too.
