what damage occurs when cam belt breaks?

1999 renault espace 2.2 rxe (1188 Turbo model)
I am told that only Rocker Damage occurs, is this true.

Hi Trevor, if the only damage is the rockers you will be very very fortunate!!!! most likely the pistons will of become very intimate with several of the valves and in the process made a nice indentations in the cylinder head, in all an expensive repair bill!!!!!!!!!!!
