Renault Kangoo 1.5DCI running like a dumper truck?

Any ideas that can cause my 2003 Kangoo to run like a dumper truck. Seems to not be firing on all cylinders, engine rocks violently on tick over, difficulty starting hot or cold but once started pulls OK but with a loud knocking noise at the top end of the engine. 91K miles on the clock regular servicing

I have a similar problem that started yesterday, perfect one second then running like a sweaty sock the next, violently shuddering revs low then high and the exhaust getting extremely hot felt through the floor in the back, and keeps konking out, also if I turn to much that turns off engine.
Help needed please

Sounds like a fueling problem. Has the fuel filter been changed lately ? can you see bubbles of air running through the tubes to the pump ? white smoke ?
The only other thing I can think of is the cambelt ( or should that be crankshaft sprocket has moved slightly) Theres no key on the crank so if isn't bang on it will cause your problem. sometimes people make an arse of changing the belt and don't tighten the pulley bolt enough which then allows the sprocket to move very slightly.
It's either fuel or timing though, thats my bet.
