Powertrain indicator on my ford fiesta?

The powertrain indicator on my 57 plate ford fiesta 1.4 tdi. When it comes on I loose some power but can still drive. I have taken it back to ford on two occassions and they have run a diagnostic check with a negative result. They say everything is I fine. They have taken it for a test drive but could not find a problem but the problem is occuring more frequently. Has anyone else encountered this or knows what the problem is as its getting me frustrated now

hi i had the same problem on my 57 plate mazda2 deisel, that uses the same engine, had it in at fords for three days and it turned out to be a blocked egr valve, its been fine for 9 months, thet need a good blast out ever now and then,

I am currently having same problem with my 08 Fiesta 1.25 Petrol. It is usually not long after starting journey when car has been cold. Powertrain warning light flashes and car starts revving. Engine management light is on either red or yellow and screen displays 'Please Check Owners Guide Engine System Fault'. This continues until you switch off, wait a few minutes and start engine again. However, sometimes after a few minutes of driving, it does exactly the same thing again. Not ideal when traffic light has just turned green!
I have taken in to Ford garage who said a fault was showing, they cleared it and took car for a drive - no fault reappeared so I was charged the time and sent on my way with "There's nothing wrong". Taking car back tomorrow and leaving it there until they fix it as problem is becoming much more frequent.

i have the same issue on my 08 fiesta zebec s 1.6. light comes on and have a loss of power, the AA and my local garage both diagnosed this as a throttle pedal sensor issue. i then had the sensor and the pedal replaced yesterday at a cost of £200! only for the fault to come back today. any advice would be appreciated.

Just got a 2007 fiesta 1.4 tdci from ford dealer. Intermitent engine fault, sputter, gudder at 2 to 4000 revs, been back 3 time in 3 weeks. They have changed fuel fitter , fuel sensor sender and number 4 injector. Fault still there. Giving them one last chance before demanding refund.

YES 09 FIESTA 1.6 ZETEC tdi- SAME WARNING LIGHT SAME SYMPTOMS: First happened 2 years ago when I overtook a car, revs went up high then it started. Nothing for two years. Overttok another car today , revs went up and it started again. Stopped for five mins, then switched on again: It said service now-engine fault. This then vanished and no warning light: Been fine again since

Powertrain was on for few seconds, I switched off the ignition and then powered on again. It went off.

I've had this problem on 2 different ford focus cars turned out to be throttle body u need to have the cars scanned but they need to scan the gearbox control module for the code it's not in the ecu

Just try disconnecting the MAF sensor and driving for few miles in 3rd gear with revs above 3000.
It will help to remove any blocks in the in take / ex-host pipes and give you a better pick up. Also try cleaning the air filter and replace it if it is too dirty.
Try cleaning the MAF sensor with IP(Isopropile alchahole ) . There will be a mirror type of portion inside the MAF sensor which would have dust and carbon accumulated in it. You need to clean it very carefully.

Hi,

Quick update on my powertrain light - diagnostics was done and glow plug was one of errors however garage cleared down the errors from the car system and it has never returned - 3 months and still nothing - so far so good

I have a 09 1.6TDCI Fiesta and I am having the same problem as all of you guys, a friend of mine is speaking to a guy at ford to see if there is a common fault with the glow plug relay. He will also obtain a cost for the relay as if not to much I may change it and see what happens will keep you all informed.

Yes, my 57 plate 1.4tdci Fiesta does the same. Was told by a mechanic I know that it could be the powertrain or brakes? When driving an amber light comes on, intermittently (shape of a cog) car feels sluggish, like stuck in tar.

I also have an 08 fiesta zetec blue TDCi 1.4! The light comes on - I don't notice a huge power failure and then goes off - what should I do and what is going on with these model of cars of this age!!!

A Smith, August 2012
GUESS WHAT: I have a 2008 1.4tdci Fiesta - the problem?? Exactly the same.

Now I got it checked by the small machine - no codes showed up. I took it to an expensive garage in leeds and came out with 6 faults. He cleared it all and came back with 3 - which shouldnt trigger the powertrain light. However i have a free recheck on Monday so if the cleared faults come back i know exaclty whats wrong with it.

BY THE WAY - you can do a check yourself - keep the reset button on the indicator stalk pressed whilst engine off - then turn ignition 2 clicks whiclst this buttin is still pressed. Will read TEST on dashboard. Keep pressing it till you get to DTC. If it says 0 then the falut hasnt been registered in the car- however heard this is not very reliable.

ive an 08 1.4tdci and getting intermittant problem with powertrain light coming on and off changed fuel filter and this cleared fault for 6 months then back again got checked at garage and thet say its glow plug relay causing fault

william, July 2012
Did any of you guys get to the bottom of the problem?

Ive had the same problem power train light comes on and the van goes into limited power mode, had the van pluged in and it came up with mass airflow meter,Ghanged that and the problem is still there now it has to go to ford to be pluged in as the indepentant garage carnt read the ecu with a better computer. What is going on ????????? its an 08 1.4 tdci

I've also got a 57 reg Fiesta 1.4 Tdci AND also experiencing the same problem!

I took it into my local Ford garage and they've diagnosed it as an issue with the glow plug relay - hoping this has fixed it now

al5x, August 2011
i have this exact same problem i belive it to be number 4 injector but just cant prove it, i work at a good inderpendant garage with the lastest diagnostic equiptment, if i give the fuel system a good purge the problem goes away for a couple of weeks then comes back so its mechanical, but as yet still not sorted it and dont want to spend out for the costly injectors in case it isnt that

dynamite_m2002, April 2011
I have exactly the same problem, and guess what? It's a 57 plate Fiesta 1.4 TDCi! Two garages have checked it, and it's come up with a fault in the glow plug relay. They have to order a part, but luckily it can still be mended under warranty.

Emma, August 2010
I have just been searching Google for the exact same problem - I own a 57 plate Fiesta 1.4 TDCi Zetec Blue. I have exactly the same scenario - sometimes its fine, and other times the powertrain warning light will flash and the power goes right down.

Im going to try and get it looked at today - i'll make a post should anything come back.

Jordan, December 2009
Hi Tony, if the failure warning light has occured a fault WILL have been logged in the cars computers, unless it is a fault with the wiring to the failure light which is very unlikely!!!
The symptoms you describe are the computer going into protective "limp home" mode so there is definately an intermittant failure of a sensor or valve, I would suggest you take it to a good independant garage they will have the kit to diagnose and a lot cheaper than the Ford stealership
