I've just had this problem too. Dryer would run for 5 mins then stop, the only way to run it was to hold the start button in.
Changed the thermostat kit first (hotpoint part number 1701583) but still had the same fault. The problem turned out to be the start relay, got one from sparecentre.com (again a hotpoint spare part number 1701157).

firstly. since it is a condensor dryer, empty water from collection bottle (normally below door behind clip panel) clean fluff filter, if blocked machine will overheat causing to stop after several mins. also beside water bottle remove condensor unit ( which converts the steam off the clothes when drying to water. looks like a long rectangluar box with fins. check seals both ends. and clean very well. easy is to wash with power shower or use coat hanger to remove all fluff from deep inside fins. PLEASE NOTE THE CONDENSOR HAS NO ELECTRICAL PARTS. SO MAKE SURE IT DEFO. IS THE CONDENSOR BEFORE WASHING.
