does anyone know what could be wrong with my corsa 1.2 sxi?

its a petrol engine but it sounds just like a diesel.garage said it was because of the exhaust.£200 later and it sounds just the same!!! any ideas???

i had this problem and took it to a garage. they said it was the timing chains.. they advised me to get them changed eventually but said it would run ok like that... i mean im no mechanic but hope this helps
