Whats wrong with my tefal steam generator GV8120 ?

I rinsed out the the steam generator and forgot to put the drain cap back on , it now trips the electric out and doesnt work . What part has gone and what can I do ?

it makes the pumping noise to push water into the steem chambre but no water is pumped through so it cant steem
