Okay I'm 16 and I need to know how to change a timing belt?

Okay... well first of all I just bought a 90 Geo Prizm for 500 dollars and the timing belt is bad I guess or so my Dad tells me and he's a mechanic, so well I'm like ok can you fix it, well I researched it and the timing belt is like at most 18 dollars when he told me 30 and he is trying to install it and charge me 100 dollars... is this possible for me to by myself? If so can anyone give me a tutorial on how to do it.

This is a hard question especally if he is your dad and wanting to charge you 100 dollars todo it ......this is a cheap price so I`ll give him credit there because if it isn`t install correctly it can cause major engine damages when its cranked ........all the exhaust vavles and intakes vavles can be bent and that gets expensive ......if you are mech inclined and have done this type of work you proably can get a manual for it and do it yourself ........I have 2 sons and have had jeeps ...hondas and Ford escorts and have never charged them a dime ....I am a 25 year GM tech with a MAsters degree........the Jeep I have went bumper to bumper on it ....brakes ..wheel cylinders.brakes all around ..transfer case ...rear end ..camshaft ..carb overhaul
axles and hubs...clutch ..pullled engine .....both driveshafts
electrical throuh out ...yep it went thru both sons and they gave it hell was glad to be able to help them but they paid for all the parts !!!!
