volkswagon caravelle losing power on motorway?

Hi i have a 2000 volkswagon caravelle 5 cylinder diesel and when im driving it on the motorway it loses power and you have to pull over. Once you switch it off and restart it will run ok again for another while, ive changed the air flow meter and a few other bits and pieces on the advice of another mechanic with a diagnostic machine but the fault still persists. Its ok driving around a town or city it just seems to develop at long journeys at higher speeds. Any help very appreciated thanks

check fuel lines for chaffed areas which may be drawing in air, have you changed fuel and air filters? if not could be causing your problem, also could be something fouling pick-up pipe in fuel tank [had same fault on ldv, turned out to be a small piece of crisp packet in tank!]also check that turbo hoses [if fitted] are not collapsing when engine is on full demand.is fuel tank venting ok.all worth checking before you go down the road of pump being your cause!
