New World vision 50wlg gas cooker ignition problem?

My mothers new world cooker has a button you press to ignite the gas hobs. It has stopped working and is dead i.e. no spark at hob. I have checked the fuse in the plug which is ok. Any ideas as to what I could try?

Hi,
I've had problems with the ignition on my New world as well, and I found out that it gets affected by the odd spillage (water from pressure cooker etc). So I dried it off using a hair dryier, and it worked !
To access the spark generator, you need to pull off the 4 knobs, then remove the 2 screws holding the hob plate down, and lift the plate up. You can then remove the spark unit (it's only clipped to the plate), but leave the wire to the igniters.
My New world cooker had got a battery operated spark ignition unit (1.5 volts - N type), but if yours is mains operated, unplug it/remove fuse first before messing with it.
As the previous chap said, you might be looking at a new spark generator unit. (not cheap, last time I googled it, was around £ 40 !!).
Good luck
Pat

some cookers have batteries for spark, however, if a mains model, you might be looking at problems with a spark generator.
