Lots of white smoke from exhaust and loss of power?

Hi...i need some advise. I have a Renault clio 1.d DCI which has lots of white smoke coming from the exhaust and also suffers from loss of acceleration. About 2 months ago it had to go into Renault as there was black smoke coming out of it, they confirmed the problem as being the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recycling) valve. Now it has this problem which Renault are saying the is the Turbo and it needs replacing at the cost of €1200.

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks

sounds like a turbo to me you could buy a turbo and fit it yourself that will be alot cheaper

white smoke in a diesl indicates water blue mix with black indicates burning to much oil .to do the turbo unit i would get some one to confirm it if u can then go to e bay or the sprts car breaker and get a second hand turbo unit for about 40 to 50 pound then get some one from the garage to fit as a homer.u could get a second hand full engine for about 300 pounds then about 100 to 150 to get some one to fit it all in about 450 pounds renult are having a laugh and only want ur money nothing else.i know of a situation that renult told a friend that there car needed a silinder head gasket replace for a few hundred pound i taken them to my mates garage and it was only the valve that circulates the water from the raidator and fixed it for 20 pounds lol
