which way do i turn the nut holding my mower blade on?

i have a Challenge petrol mower with a broken blade. the nut securing it is on so tight i can't budge it; but i'm not sure whether it's clockwise or anti-clockwise to undo it!

if it tightens against the direction of the rotation shouldn't you turn it the same direction of the blade to loosen it?

Anti-clockwise - it's a standard bolt, just TIGHT. I use an electric impact wrench. If you only have hand tools, knock on a 14MM socket (bolt is actually 9/16"), and use a long lever. Wedge the blade to prevent it turning, and don't forget to remove the plug wire.

The direction the blades rotate will dictate the thread.

The securing nut will be organised to tighten with the rotation - so to undo the nut you turn it against the direction of blade rotation.
