windows wont start?

when i start my desktop computer the screan starts up but wont go to windows all it shows is the arrow and nothing eles can you help

The arrow is the mouse cursor. What version of windows do you have? Have you installed any hardware or software before this happened? Try pressing F8 continuously when you start up again to get into Safe mode. Then Start/control panel/system/hardware. Do you have any items with orange or red icons? If yes these need drivers installing. If this is no help press del key at start up to get into BIOS. Is a hard drive listed? Are all your drives listed. A failing hard drive or DVD/Cd rom can cause the system to hang. Sounds to me like faulty hardware is stopping the windows loading or the MBR is corrupt. These can be sorted.
