BT Telephone extension?

I have had an extension on my BT phone for 25 years. The old dial type phone fell to pieces and I replaced it with a more recent tone dial BT phone. I can dial out and talk but it doesn't ring. I have tried three others and they are the same, and they all work on another line. My extension is 2-wire; blue/white and white/blue going to pins 2 and 5. Has anybody any clues please.

If it is modern phone it does not require wire 3. However, if it is an old second hand phone, you can achieve the same effect as wire three by connecting the phone via a Broadband micro filter.

The wires going to No.s 2 & 5 are for the dial tone, you require a wire going to No.3 to give you the ring tone. Hope this helps.
I am no expert but have had a similar problem and was put right by a BT employee.
