How do you repair the steering linkage on a Craftsman Riding Mower?

The "steering linkage arm?" has come off the little ball, connected to the front axle. I can put it back on the ball, but it just keeps popping off... especially when turning to the right. Model #917.259544

I have a mower of this vintage. You will need a new drag link that comes with a ball and socket on each end. The ball is pressed into the socket at the factory and you buy the link and two ball.studs as one unit part #. It will be about $55 plus tax. I replaced mine by dropping the deck the two nuts later you remove the whole drag link.

This is called a 'rose joint' and, once worn, tends to come apart on its own. Replacement is necessary with a new part.
