Why do the hands keep falling off my Grandfather Colck?

When I wind my Grandfather Clock and the starts to keep time the hands fall off, why? How can I fix it?

Depending on the age of the clock the hands of a grandfather clock are held on by a tapered pin or a hand nut. The older ones use a tapered pin. If the shaft you put your minute hand on has a small hole in it then you need a pin. If it is threaded on the end then you need a hand nut. Either one can be obtained at your local clock shop. You may have to purchase several to find the right size.

If it needs a pin also get a washer for it.
