Whae I start up the mower I have the brake pressed down and when I take foot off it dies simaltaneously when I put into drive, makes big backfire pop. The gear to put in go, nuetral, and reverse seems alot easier to move - normally its stiffer to move into those spots

How do I repair the brake system on my Sabre and how do I repair the clutch system on my Sabre? I smell burning rubber when the tractor is running and I noticed that my tractor slowed down in all gears. 3rd gear feels like 1st gear use to? What is wrong and how do I fix this issue. thank you.
