Homelite Gas Blower MDL HB 180?

My friend offered me his non working unit knowing I enjoy working on machines. However, my first time attempting to repair a Gas blower. The unit is not working. If after replacing the spark plug air filter if there is one what is the exact oil to gas mixture I should use and is there an special oil you would suggest for this machine Is there a free manual download available. And finally should I even try to get it running or should I have a local repair shop work on it or is it a waste of my dollars to repair it ? Please help SN

Just found this reference on the Web... I can't comment on its accuracy and/or utility, but its something you might want to check into if you still need a service manual.

The reference is:
String Trimmer and Blower (1997 and Prior) Service Manual

and you can find it at Clymer Manuals on the Web:

The blower should be cheap to fix yourself if you're handy, and many small engine repair shops carry parts for vintage tools and engines. Most are helpful guiding you to the correct replacement parts as well. Just look for a shop that's been around awhile. It will improve your ability to find the needed parts, as well as service advice.

I had mine for 18 years without a lick of trouble... The primer bulb finally developed a stress crack and started leaking. Replaced it last year and this year the fuel line developed a crack. Easy to start, and runs like a top. Most reliable and maintenance free piece of gas powered equipment I've ever owned. A Montgomery Ward power mower would be a very close second place.

I only have the Owner's Manual for the HB-180, and its not helpful for service. I stumbled upon this post while surfing for a service manual for it. I don't yet have a need for one, but one might come in handy down the road.

32:1 is the correct oil mixture, and the manual calls this 32:1 2-cycle oil whatever that means. I used 4 Oz. of SAE-30 per gallon... left over from my Montgomery Ward Mower days :-)..., and have kept with that recipe since. I think it pretty much meets the 2-cycle engine oil requirement.

I own one of these blowers and it is difficult to start and keep running. I also am in need of an owner's manual to troubleshoot the problem. I DO KNOW that the gas-oil mix is 32-1
