From Wikipedia,

A snubber is a device used to suppress ("snub") voltage transients in electrical systems, pressure transients in fluid systems, or excess force or rapid movement in mechanical systems.

I didn't know either

What is a snubber? When does it make the grinding sound? Do you realise this model is 18 years old & any major repairs are probably uneconomical & may be a waste of money?
