I have a suffolk punch 14" super lawnmower. ?

It runs beautifly, however, when the revvs increase, the mower shoots off, I cannot seem to disengage the drive and have to hold on to the machine as it goes haring off down the garden.
Can anyone help with this problem?
thanks

if you ride a motor bike or scooter fitted with a hand clutch you have got brainwashed into disengaging a clutch by PULLING the lever INWARD.

On a Suffolk mower the clutch works BACKWARDS by pulling the clutch lever in with the engine revving the clutch ENGAGES until the lever is released .
If the machine is creeping on a fast tick over, the clutch drive belt could be dragging this can be improved by removing the right hand cover plate remove the large pulley nut and washer ,pull off the 1 half of the pulley refit the large WASHER then the other half of the pulley
