Hi i am in desperation for an answer as i have four children and no car at moment due to my 54 renault megane scenic 1.9 turbo diesel, playing up first the dashboard lights has gone but i could still drive the car, everything else worked other than the dash but now a few days later the car wont even start please help i am desperate.

thank you all for your posts. walked in to renault dealer today with a 2005 megane scenic and they are replacing my dashboard for £150 plus vat. i thought they wouldnt do it since its now out of warrant and being 3rd owner on it and having bought it from a pvt seller.

If you need to remove &/or replace the dashboard display, it's a doddle . remove the two speaker covers on the dash top (carefully) - remove with a screwdriver as a lever starting towards the interior side, then lift away. It may be a help to drop the steering column as low as possible. remove the two star-head screws which are under the speaker covers. The entire dash top can then be withdrawn towards the inside of the car. There are only three star-headed screws securing the display unit. Remove these and the two or four connections (depending on year).
Replacement is a reversal making sure that the dash top locates at the front (screen) side first with it's two location lugs.

To replace instrument panel everything is £100 (parts, fitting etc) nothing to pay on top. Feel much better now!

As per Watchdog tonight Renault have agreed to replacing the dash for a cost of £100. For those who have already had it replaced they will refund the full cost of replacement minus the £100. Take a look at the Watchdog website for the number to ring.

Same thing happend with me . Dont buy a new battery. It is the dash itself that is faulty. They should replace this under wtee so when you take it in make sure you mension this to them. This problem costed me £600.00

This display fault is common on Scenics years, '03, '04, and '05. It costs around £500 to replace by a dealer. There was a page on this site which has been removed (yesterday). It had 330 posting on this problem. Renault have refunded some peoples costs but not others. BBC Watchdog are aware and I have written to Renault UK. Please make them aware of your problem.

i sent my megane scenic dash to a company called cartronix.co.uk and recieved it back 2 days later fully working and was only charged £140 including p & p excellent service

This is a simplier job than what the dealer makes out. The digital dash can be easlier removed from the front of the dash board by simply unclipping the direct surrounding of the digital dash. You then unscrew the 2 screws on each end of the digital dash and then un plug the 2 plugs. All front access. I sent mine off to ECU TESTING (ECUtesting.com) and they sent it back within a week cost £195. A week later though my car kept cutting out and i had to have the a wiring loom replaced apperently a common fault too. cost £140 again not from dealer as Renault dealers are considerably dearer..
