I just had an MOT and it failed me as one of the headlight aims need adjusting, beam too low, Do you know how to fix it?

All headlamps are individually adjustable, both for up and down movement and also left and right. Usually the adjusters are normal screws with a spring underneath...but often they are rusted solid! Maybe thats why the garage didn't do it for you? If your lamps have electric motor adjustment - to compensate for vehicle weight - set the adjuster inside the car to 'o' , and let a mechanic adjust them for fear of breakage.
