This particular model is equipped with a "water path control device" on the soap dispenser. In simple terms it directs water flow into the correct compartment at the correct stage in the program. It operates electrically via a small motor located at the back of the soap compartment (you can only see it with the washer lid removed).
Best case scenario...the nozzels in the softener compartment roof itself are partially blocked & not allowing good flow. Worst case scenario...the water path control device is faulty.
