Lock-on Lock-off part of trigger broken on electric trimmer?

My Black and Decker trimmer was working fine. I felt something snap while moving the lock-on and lock-off part (on top, opposite the trigger). Whatever the part was, it made the electric connection somehow. Now trimmer will not turn on at all. I've taken trimmer apart and found two little pieces of loose plastic inside. A black, squarish piece and a white rectangular piece. Small pieces, roughly 1/4".

If I get them back into position, I assume I will continue to have problems with them popping out of place. Can I bypass them?
