My machine is over five years old and it has had two "brains" and a new thermostat for the dryer and I want to know if I should cut my losses and buy a new one or not. When the machine has a full or half load it only moves from side to side but when it's empty wash or I put it on a spin it moves no problem. I was told it 's the motor but also that it's the brushes help please

Sounds like the brushes. Normally if it was the motor it wouldn't move at all (but they can sometimes!). Brushes are fairly cheap so try a new set and see if it cures the problem.
