stripped spark plug housing thread in cylider head?

The housing threads in one of the cylinder head spark plug holes is compleatly stripped and a spark plug now just 'drops' in to the hole.

How is this repaired and is it expensive to do it?

Thanks John.

My garage is sorting it out now.

Just as you said, the head has to come off and the stripped thread housing re-driilled, tapped and a threaded insert installed to take a spark plug.

A good garage will fit a 'helicoil' insert for you - but it means taking the cylinder head off to do this. An alternative is another head from a breakers yard.
