i was driving along and my van just cut out. When at side of the road ten minutes later i tried it and it started up but as soon as i touch the accelerator it cuts out. so then i tried leaving it running to see if it was the accelerator was the problem but i was wrong. it cut out again. i got the rac out and they did a fault test and said its the diesel fuel ecu or the turbo. well i don't have turbo so i think its the ecu one.
i found out it was gonna be £800 for a new ecu. then someone said they can fix the existing ecu for £150. but when looking through forums people said it may be the key battery or transponder and to resync it. I then thought i'd look for the diesel pump ecu and cannot find it. theres one on the top of the engine but ive been told its the engine ecu.
i'm lost.

so please
can i resync the key and will it work?
where is the diesel pump ecu?
or anyother ideas on what the problem could be?

please help. i've had enough now. lol

It is a simple matter to re synch yr key/ ignition details are in Haynes manual for your reg CORSA car - prob on net as well. I have bs7671 as well as MSAET, AMSOE and others - go for a veh sparky not a well meaning mechanic - kind regards

Ref immobiliser keys: to my knowledge being an ex Gemini, scorpion and others dealer, I am pretty sure the battery in your key is only for the central locking. You have a chip in your key. Wen you turn the ignition to on, the security system 'talks' to your key-IF your key has the right chip fitted it will talk back and allow Your car to start- nothing to do with key batteries !!!!

I have a similar problem. Have not worked as a veh sparky for nr on ten years now, however I retain the fundamentals of the technology. In my spare time I am pursuing a remedy to my problem. This s my theory so far.i under stand with hdi vehicles the in tank fuel pump ( lift pump) is electrically powered. It makes sense that any immobiliser of factory fit would interrupt ths feed only. Therefore It may be feasible to hard wire the feed to the fuel pump in the tank and therefore remove any f the results of immobiliser, bad feed etc by supplying new connections here. Obviously with this done if the vehicle behaves then that reassures f certain things, good fuel pump etc.The immobiliser only cuts the fuel feed, I have confirmed this by using a non chipped key ad the engne cranks but doesn't fire - ongoing.
Therefore first thing to check is the in tank fuels pump electival feed.
This fault is new to me on this vehicle so it is an 'ongoing' fault - I have run out of time this week but will progress it ASAP.
Another thing I retro noticed / remembered tho was when the van last cut out there were minimal ignition warning lights on - inc alternator - therefore it could be assumed - subject to proving that the btermittent cut out was caused by an intermittent ignition feed that should be another thing that is pursued prior to exchanging expensive units. I am actually assuming tat good. Old vauxhall have purposely made this system expensive when simpler ways would achieve the same. Criticalities dictating whether the n tank fp can be hot wired is 1/ what voltage does it run on ( the ecu might be attenuating to a lower voltage) and 2/ if vauxhall wanted to be really awkward they could Make the motor ac or square wave drive making my suggestions difficult to achieve. I would appreciate anyone else's input ( technical please ) with regard to this - thanks. Apologies for spellings - can't be bothered to spell check! hi, if its the ECU which is on top of engine you need the following parts from the same van:ECU, KEY, CLOCKS, TRANSPONDER AND MODULE. make sure the numbers on the back of the ecu match yours. I found all that stuff (as a kit) on ebay for £150. van runs great now :)

hi ive just had a fuel pump fitted on my combo van.About a week later i was on the motorway and my van cut out. The mechanic said the ecu had packed in aswell. At the moment i am just shopping around trying to gain info and decide what to do. There are companies that do a collect and repair service. Ive been quoted 420+vat from vauxhall.

edu repairs on ebay for £46. just sent mine off today.same problem as you lot, spanner light stays on starts once out of every 20 or 30 tries,then cuts out after 3 seconds. tried the new battery in key fob everything, fingers crossed with the edu repair. hope it works

hi, i've just had the same problem where my van cut out and wouldn't restart, well it did start once and cut striaght out again. I was thinking it sounds fuel related and see edu's for sale/fixing on ebay, however i am keen to know more about what you know about the key problems, do you mean the ignition key? Mines been dodgy for a while, changed the battery but no improvement, and i had the orange light on the dash solid for about 20 minutes last week but it went off. Have had ignition noise on when key is removed (lasts quite some time as if i'd left light on), does this ring any bells with anyone? Any help greatly received

Hi, I have got the same problem with my combo van. The ECU is located on the side of the Diesel pump (it bolts onto the side of it) and can be removed without removing the pump (so I have been told by my garage). If the light on the dash (amber car with spanner through it) is flashing, then its a key problem. If it stays on, then the ECU is faulty. You could have it repair for £150, but no guarentee's. Unfortunalty, its the £800.00 new one for me. Can't have the van breaking down every five minutes (if you know what I mean).
