Wipers not completing the full journey or intermittent operation

This happened on my Golf - intermittent at first and gradually becoming worse until total failure...

The motor was held in place by three bolts and they had worked loose... As the linking mechanism moved it rocked the motor about until it became locked up in itself.

Tightening up the motor bolts fixed it for me.
