Sometimes when entering the fast spin cycle after the slow, I assume wash balancing cycle, the machine bounces around viciously for a short time, although the pump has emptied the water out, I feel that it may be the tachometer at fault, what do you suggest?

Try checking that the nuts holding the concrete weights have not worked loose, as this can lead to banging and excessive noise and unbalance.
