LG WM-1485FHD Washing Machine won't spin when 1400rpm is selected?

I have to select the 400rpm low spin to remove some of the excess water and only then can I run the 1400rpm spin mode. It would seem the weight of the clothing when wet is preventing the 1400rpm mode from running at the end of a wash? Can anyone advise?
