replacing battery in ford key fob?

The battery in my ford s-max key has died. Is it straightforward to replace or do I need to take it to a dealer so ford can charge me an arm and a leg to do it?

I can get this to work for one of my two keys, OR the other one. Both can be programmed individually, but then the other is un-programmed.

I tried Craig's "multiple key" instruction, but can't get it to work. Any other hints

Many thanks Craig this worked for me. It took two -three goes but worked. Nowhere does it mention this in the handbook.

Also worth noting that if you have multiple remote keys, all need to be programmed together, otherwise you will still have un-programmed keys, just not the one you originally had a problem with.

After programming the 1st key, you need to remove it (without going to position II) and insert then next within 10 seconds, then start the procedure again with the switching from position I to position II 4 times.

FORD SMax - Key Remote Programming

1. Switch Ignition On/Off (II/0) 4 times within 6 seconds until a sound is made.

2. Press any button on Remote until a sound is made. Hold the button donw and the Car will lock whilst you are in the car. You can then use the key to unlock.

I have just done this and it works

Hi, I currently have the same problem. I have changed the battery twice but the remote locking/unlocking doesnt work. The manual states nothing about having to re-program the key so i am stuck, short of going to Ford to find out.

Many thanks

Craig
