My R reg ford mondeo has stopped working?

My r reg ford mondeo had a loud ticking noise which i thought was the timing belt, then the car started losing power and stopped working altogether, I've been told the valve's gone any ideas on how i can fix this?
The car is a n R reg (98) and a 1.8 engine

sounds to me like the head gasket has gone as previously said if you don't know what your doing take it to someone that does should cost around £400 to fix properly .

sometimes itn cheaper to go to the scrap yards and get another cylinder head as its cheaper to do this than get a new set of valves, then you will need to replace head gasket, timing belt and tensioners as this what probably failed ,if you don't know how to do this then leave it to an expert or you'll end up causing more damage.
