how to fix idling on bmw 318 i?

my car seems to be running normal until its idling then it becomes erratic ands sounds as though its struggling.any ideas ?

THANKS FOR INPUT. TOOK IT TO SPECIALIST BMW GARAGE DIAGNOSED PROBLEM JUST WITH BONNET UP.I HAD SPLIT CRANKSHAFT BREATHER PIPE REPLACED CAR RUNNING FINE NOW.

check vacum hose on air intake. check and listen for a sucking noise from pipe as they are prone to spliting.
