Help Needed !

My car radio suddenly went off, and I can't get it to come back on.
Everytime I try to switch it on, it just comes up with the error message ''EXT. MUTE''.
I have never had to put a code into the radio - in fact I don't even think I have one.

Has anyone any ideas what could be causing the problem, and how to fix it ?

I have the same problem! I bought a new Sony radio for 50€ a 1DIN mask for 20€ and now it is fine. OK, it doesn´t show the datas on the display, but the radios display is for me enough.

Is it a Clarion radio?
I have a similar problem. The ext mute seems to me to be a problem with the remote control stalk?
My radio doesn't show this message, but it plays fine for 10 mins to an hour, then loses the signal. I can hear it (just) but it's very faint and hisses and 'pops' as if searching for a radio station. I tried to change stations, but it just stays on the original station. Turn it off for 10 mins, turn it back on, and it's fine ...... for a few minutes, then 'goes' again.
Clarion quoted me £90 to fix it. LOL!!!!!!
